WPD coordinated the SUNY Cortland Graham Avenue to Bowers Hall Walkway project from its inception through installation. Working with STREAM Collaborative and SUNY Cortland’s client team, WPD led a local team of designers and engineers to improve the connecting corridor from Graham Avenue to the entrance of the recently renovated Bowers Hall science building. The pathway functions as utility access for facility vehicles and was previously unsafe for student and faculty pedestrians. With the addition of lush gardens, we used paving patterns to differentiate walking and traffic areas, and created a new ADA-accessible pathway to the Moffett Center building, located along the route. Partway down the walkway is a large turnaround for facility vehicles, a critical design decision that further improved safety by reducing vehicular traffic speeds and providing an area for vehicles to turn out of the way of pedestrians.
