Columbus Park

Columbus Park

Binghamton, NY

Municipal | Urban | Park

WPD assisted the City of Binghamton with securing funding for this project, which grew in scope to include Binghamton’s first-ever public youth and community center. In March 2022, this project received a Merit Award for Unbuilt Design from ASLA’s New York Upstate chapter. The park layout opens up to the center for circulation and gathering, and sight lines on what was once a city street. A fitness trail wraps the site, connecting the new playground, existing splash pad, open lawn area, and basketball courts. This project is part of a larger trajectory of transformative projects in Binghamton’s dynamic urban neighborhood. Columbus Park is one of the only open spaces in the downtown core, and is within close proximity to the recently constructed Koffman Incubator and the 2-acre expansion of VINES urban farm. Upgrades to Columbus Park will be seen and experienced by a broad audience of neighbors, visitors, entrepreneurs, gardeners and their families.
