Cornell Hillel
Cornell Hillel
Situated along University Avenue, on the west side of Cornell University, the dynamic architecture of the new Steven K. and Winifred A. Grinspoon Hillel Center nestles into the neighborhood's eclectic collection of apartments, fraternities, and historic academic buildings. From the steeply sloping street & sidewalk, the building will be viewed through a lush and vibrant bioretention basin, planted with an extensive and diverse native plant palette.
A welcoming, public-facing, and partially covered entrance plaza will host seating and lighting, extending the building's program as a center for Jewish student life and an inclusive campus hub. Clearly defined pedestrian connections, accessible entries, and flexible outdoor gathering spaces extend programmatic life outdoors, supporting study, reflection, and cultural events. The three-story, 23,190-square-foot LEED Silver facility integrates the building and site to create a cohesive and visible campus presence. Together, architecture and landscape create a safe, resilient, and engaging environment that reflects Hillel’s mission while contributing meaningfully to the University Avenue streetscape.
