Kathryn Chesebrough

Kathryn (Kate) Chesebrough, RLA, has served Whitham Planning Design Landscape Architecture, PLLC as an Associate, lead project manager, and designer for transformative public realm and open-space initiatives since 2016, and is currently consults independently with the firm on selected projects.
A lifelong New York State resident, she has led interdisciplinary teams through outreach, design, and approvals processes for mixed-use, housing, park, and streetscape projects. Her portfolio includes Maplewood, City Centre, 411–415 College Ave, and City Harbor in Ithaca, as well as the Downtown Arts District and Mirabito Stadium District streetscape master plans in Binghamton. Throughout, Kate has worked closely with clients, consultants, and stakeholders to deliver context-responsive, high-impact design solutions.
In addition to her professional practice, Kate serves as a Lecturer at Cornell University, where her studios and seminars foster care, curiosity, and critical engagement with complex landscapes. Grounded in a background in visual communication and the arts, she brings a rigorous yet imaginative approach to advancing resilient urban ecologies through collaborative, research-driven processes. Her international experience with CIFOR-ICRAF in Nairobi and arts-based residencies in Rio de Janeiro continues to inform her advocacy for vibrant, community-centered public spaces.
